Looking for Great Lunch

I am going to NYC in April for a mother/daughter trip. We love to have long/ 3 course lunches rather then dinner as my mother is 73. Any advice on where to go? Thanks.

You might want to pick up a copy of the 2002 Zagat's guide for NYC. It has listing of restaurants that have fixed price lunches for under $40. You can also go to www.zagat.com and look at the list of lunchtime fixed price locations.

Most restaurants are open for lunch so any list would be quite long. What part of the city are you looking at and what types of food are you interested in?

Hi Sarah, there is a post here about high tea at the Pierre, have you thought about that? Although it is not lunch, from what everyone says it would certainly be a special afternoon. I'll top the thread so you can find it. I hope you and your Mom have a wonderful trip!

Hi Sarah, The lunch special at Gotham Bar and Grill (E12th Street between 5th Ave. and University Place) is a great choice. The cost is $20.02 for a three course lunch. They also have a $20.02 bottle of wine special at lunch too. It is one of the best restaurants in New York (check out the Zagats Guide www.zagat.com). They will not rush you through your lunch and it's a great atmosphere. Just make your reservations soon since it is a very, very popular place. Have fun.

Hi Sarah...I suggest (and highly recommend) Lady Mendl's at the Inn at Irving Place, between 17th and 18th Streets...they serve a 5 course afternoon tea that is wonderful and delicious in a very calm and elegant atmosphere...it includes fresh fruit, English sandwiches, scones with cream and or preserves, petit fours, and fruit and or chocolate tarts...and of course, a very large selection of tea...you have to make a reservation...the telephone number is (212)533-4466.

Rene Pujol on W 51st St. is a lovely place for lunch (and dinner). Wonderful French food and very polished service. If you like chocolate, be sure to try their Melted Choc. Souffle for dessert - we take friends there just for that!
