From Phoenix to Yellowstone
We are planning a trip to Yellowstone the second week in June. We have two children (7 and 12). Has anyone made the trip up to Yellowstone through Utah? I could use some advice as to what route would be the most fun for a family trip. Thanks to anyone for the help!

How long a trip are you planning? If you have two weeks, you could easily spend most of the first one in southern Utah, seeing Zion and Bryce and maybe more so. Utah parks. If you also get sidetracked in Las Vegas, you may never get to Yellowstone, but perhaps you have "done Vegas" before now. Heading straight north, through Page and Lake Powell, is, I believe, more scenic that going through Las Vegas, though both routes have both good spots and long barren stretches.
After a night or three at Zion and/or Bryce, head up I15, about 5 hours to SLC. You can keep going on I15 into Idaho and turn east at some point (several choices--go one way and return another. Be sure to spend a day or two in Jackson while you're up there, and another day or two in the Grand Tetons. It's time (NOW!) to make reservations in the Tetons/Yellowstone area. We went last summer, and I started looking into where to stay in mid-March. It was already too late to get our first choice, Signal Mt. Lodge in the Tetons. Do a search on this site and see what everyone says about where to stay in the three areas where you'll want to go. We needed accommodations for 8, so you'll probably get anything you want if you decide in February.
Have fun! If you spend too much time going through Utah, you'll be sorry when you get to Wyoming.

Doing a similar trip this summer. My kids are 12 & 14
Phx - Page
Page - Zion
Zion - Bryce (2 days)
Bryce - Salt Lake city (2 days)
Here we are going to Boise for 3 days before going to
Grand Teton
Grand Teton - Yellowstone (3 days)
You need to try to get accomdations in the park NOW. We got the last 2 cabins available for our dates in Yellowstone, and for Grand Teton, there were only 4 left - and that was 2 weeks agon

Steve, you'll be sorry that you have only three days in Yellowstone AND the Tetons. Three in Yellowstone is OK, but then you need two more in the Tetons, or one in the Tetons and one in Jackson. I assume you are visiting relatives in Boise. One solution, take the relatives with you and spend more time in Yell/Tetons. Are you also visiting relatives in SLC? (That's where I go to visit my mother-in-law). If not, you don't need to spend two days there--head north sooner.
Another solution, save Zion and Bryce for a future trip, along with other wonderful southern Utah parks. Skip them on this trip, or just do a 3-hour stopover in one or both of them, and make your way north sooner.

We did this trip back when our boys were 10 & 13.
If this is your first time to Yellowstone I would suggest at least 5 days in the park. There is so much to see! The park will start to get busy the second week of June.
Our route went as follows, from Yellowstone we drove south through the Grand Tetons, Fleming Gorge National Recreational Area, spent some time at Dinosaur National Monument, went to Moab area visiting Arches and Canyonlands, then drove to Capitol Reef National Park, taking scenic Highway 12 down to Bryce Canyon and then Zion National Park.
