Where to stay in Glasgow and Edinburgh Scotland

I am traveling with a friend (2 women late 30s) to Glasgow and Edinburgh and would like advice on where to stay in June. What part of the city, hotel vs. B&B. We're looking for mid-range priced rooms either a double (2 beds) or 2 single rooms.
Thanks in advance!

What does "mid-range" mean to you budget-wise? A "double" room does not mean with two beds in the UK, that would be called a "twin" room.

W/o a budget we can't help very much.

And you definitely don't want a 'double'. That would be a 'Twin'

Hi nyk,

You want twin not double.

Check what's available at www.booking.com.

We just booked our second stay in Edinburgh at a B&B called No. 53 Frederick Street. Last time we stayed in their quad room; this time it will be the triple. The rooms are huge, nicely furnished, a convenient location in New Town, within walking distance of most places in Edinburgh. We're paying 110GBP/night. The breakfast is in the restaurant of the hotel next door, and was very tasty; I'm looking forward to eating there again.

Thanks LExma90, I'll check it out. Anyone know what area to stay in Glasgow? City Centre or West End? Near the train stations or further out?

That is exactly where we just stayed 15 days ago, Lexma! We loved it and paid 85 pounds/night including brkfst. What a superb location!!! We never had to walk more than 100 yards for great pubs and rstrnts and yet the setting was peaceful. One caveat, is that the long stairway up to the lodgings can be a bit dark at night and I mentioned to DH that I was not sure how I would feel if i were with a woman friend. However, you are in your 30s not your 60s!

NO elevator, you must be able to carry bags up a lot of stairs but we loved the place and you only carry your bags up once and down once....

Relying on advice from Fodorites several years ago we stayed in the West End of Glasgow at the Grosvenor Hilton. We were well satisfied with the location and the accommodations.
