Help with Paris, France??!
My 16 year old daughter and myself are going to Paris next week for 10 days. The first 4 days we will be staying at the Ritz then I would like to take her to the beach. Any suggestions on the best place to go? Hotel or ??? I do not want to move around too much...this is for relaxation and of course shopping.
Do we fly to the South or take a train?
Thank you!

Hi Elena, I'd recommend going to Bretagne (Brittany). It's not too far a trip from Paris; you could take a train to Rennes and then rent a car and explore.
Way back when I was seventeen, I spent a few weeks in the town of Trebeurden, which still has a lovely sandy beach.
Other things to do in Brittany include a trip out to (pretty but touristy) Mont St. Michel, eating crepes and great seafood, and drinking cider! You could also consider driving up to Normandy to see the beaches the Allied forces stormed in WWII - not exactly sunbathing, but it's amazing to see recent history firsthand like that.
Then return the car to Rennes and train back to Paris, or plan it so that the car can be returned to the airport at the end of your vacation. Both Autoeurope and Kemwel (sister companies) are good for navigating the car rental.

Meant to add this link, which provides a good overview of beaches:

I just think there are so many better things to do in France than sit on a beach...you can do that at home!
Some ideas for a few days outside Paris but close enough to fly in and out of Paris
Loire Valley to see the chateaux
Burgundy for wine and food - Dijon or Beaune are good spots
Brittany
Normandy
Alsace
Champagne
You could train to them the day you arrive, spend maybe 3-4 days then head to Paris for your last 6-7 days. If you don't want to rent a car pick somwhere like Strasbourg and you can take the train to smaller towns and also Baden Baden in Germany.
Happy planning

>>why do you want to go to the beach?
just to do something different than be in a city all 10 days of our vacation...<
You're not in Kansas, Toto. It's Paris.
If, somehow, you find yourself jaded with the most vibrantly alive city in Europe have you considered a daytrip to
Versailles,
Giverny,
Chartres,
Auxerre?

I don't know why everyone is so opposed to the OP wanting to go to the beach. It's summer, it's hot, especially in a city! (Even if this year the weather isn't entirely oppressive.)
When I was that age, I spent the month of July in France and half of it was in beach towns (Trebeurden and also on the Cote d'Azur). Of the two at the time, I vastly preferred Brittany. That trip was one of several around that age that instilled in me a lifelong love of France and the French!

Folks forget about Biarritz, a famous beach town.
I've been there twice, and love the place.
Here are some 5***** hotels there.

let me suggest the South of France and particularly Marseilles and a nearby beach town that I love, Cassis. Three hours by high speed train from Gare de Lyon, another hour by local train or bus (15 miles) and you are at a warm water beach in Cassis.
Boat rides available, lodging, dining, and even casino gambling. It might be a bit far but the water is warm for swimming. Several beaches offer sand and sun, the nearest just a short walk form the harbor.

I don't have any problem with going to the beach. Do they go to Europe all the time--maybe staying at the Ritz gives us a clue. A house at the beach in Greece would be my choice!! I think this is a person with a lot of choices (supposedly), and I'm not sure why they are asking on a travel book board. Ask your friends who go all the time to these places.
Didn't say where they were coming from. If the US, then whatever--beaches ARE different.
I'm pretty much with Ira on this. As usual, why leave Paris. Is it the daughter's first time and the mother's millionth? Who knows.

A parisian friend and I zipped to Honfleur for lunch and then to Deauville and Trouville. It was one spring, so too cold to sit out on the beach, but it was a great day and I'm really glad we went. However, we went by car as she has a car.
I'm from California (L.A.) and plenty used to beaches, but that had nothing to do with me deciding whether or not to go to Deauville and Trouville. It was my Parisian friend who suggested it as to get out of the city for a day. I remember we had some great crepes and apple cider, I think it was, while in either Deauville or Trouville. And our fish lunch was great in Honfleur. Happy Travels!
