We are 2 adults in their 50's and we are going to Goa for 5 days but don' t know if we should stay in the south , north or in the center. We would like to be able to see the old town but also near the beach . We are not into big parties etc... but we don' t want to be in the middle of nowhere. So we are kind of looking at the south but no too far from the center ....we are looking for 4-5 stars hotels. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I'd recommend three days in Panjim at the Panjim Inn, and two days at the beach. Except... I don't really associate Goa beaches with 4-5 star hotels. What exactly are you looking for at the beach? You do know that Goa is the home of aging hippies, backpackers, partiers/ravers, and hordes of package tourists, depending on the beach, right?

I give you the same advice than thursdaysd. Panjim Inn is a very nice place. I was in Panjim for three months beginning 2011 and I went many times to have a diner or a beer there. I met many tourists who were sleeping there, some people I was working too, and everybody was happy.

I don't know anything about the beaches except the fact you have to take care about drugs (even I you don't use)... We never know who is playing a game between the young tourists, some crook gunDa or, sometimes, some people of the local police...

"Riviera de Goa" - do you want to go to the beach, or do you want a resort hotel? In any case, this place appears to be on Baga beach, about which Lonely Planet says:

"bars open until 4am, unbroken lines of beach shacks, international brand shops, scores of tourist oriented restaurants...", also "the place for drinking and dancing", "a younger crowd".

What exactly are you going to Goa FOR?

Thank you everyone, we finally booked a boutique hotel called THE SOL , it is in the north, in quiet area, hopefully we won' t be disappointed as it looks amazing !

Did you read the tripadvisor reviews on the The Sol? Looks like a nice enough hotel, but you'll need your own transport. The nearest beach appears (their "map" is hopeless) to be Candolim. LP again: "largely the preserve of slow-roasting package tourists ... and is fringed with an unabating line of beach shacks". But it also says there are some great independent hotels in the area, which make for good stays if you have your own transport. Not sure it really fits your initial request, though.
