I am planing to visit Germany in a few months. Can you recommend travel sites to get some impressions of what's worth seeing? What I've found is only lots of texts and nothing to get inspired

Why do you want to visit a country about which you seem to know nothing and in fact need to get "inspired" about? That makes no sense. You cannot tell me that if you google any city in Germany, no photos come up, just boring text. Get outta here, this does have to be a joke.

thanks for your help! As a fan of historic places with an interesting story behind I am really surprised that Germany is full of world heritages. That's a good direction for some more recherches on that, because I don't want to do the usual cities like Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich and Co... Maybe some hidden places in East Germany near the Polish border or somewhere on the Baltic Sea. I've heard about nice National Parks there. Looks like I'll make my way to the bookstore to watch out for photo books about Germany...

What kinds of places do like? Try as Mainhatten girl suggests and use Google Images. Or search Flickr.com for some towns.

By the way, most German towns have a website and it is typically the town name and .de

As a German, I am not so comfortable with sites like germanplaces.com.

So many beautiful places are missing, e.g. Bremen, Aachen, Trier, Münster, Lübeck, the Harz towns..

There is obviously a beaten path for American tourist which concentrates on rather small parts of Germany and neglects most of the country. Come and discover! You will be surprised.

Rick Steves book was great...helped us in many ways.
Be sure to see Berlin Munich Rothenburg Bachrach and Trier...wonderful, we were there in December and had an amazing time!

The search for inspiring websites which give a good overview on a whole region is often a tiresome task since the regional tourism authorities often lack coordination and prefer to have dozens of websites online.

Since you mentioned Northeastern Germany, which is indeed a totally different thing than the typical from Rhine to Neuschwanstein trek, I would suggest the following:
