Venice to Rome - fly, train?

Venice to Rome - fly, train?
We are going to Venice for 2 days, then Rome for 6 days this April. I had planned on us all (my parents, husband, 6 and 9 yr old sons) taking the Eurostar from Venice to Rome, but looking at Ryanair, it cost less and will take less time. I've been burned by them before, though.
My question - what are your thoughts on getting from Venice to Rome? Are there any better airline options?

Ryanair don't fly from Venice - they use Treviso (- and fly into Ciampino, not FCO).
But IMO flying is not a good option on this journey. The journey by Eurostar is only 4.5 hrs. With your travelling time to/from airports and check-in time you wouldn't save any time.

check www.trenitalia.it from Venezia S. Lucia to Roma Termini.
Example: Florence to Rome only 95 minutes by Eurostar !
I would not use flights within Italy

Hi T,
Since there are 4 adults and 2 children, you qualify for two "famiglia" rates of 89E.
The cheapest rate for 2 adults and one child at Ryanair is 63E (Taxes only, flight free).
If you fly, you will have take the bus to Treviso and the bus from Ciampino to Rome.
For the small savings in money, I would take the train.

Even if all else were equal I would chose the train for your situation.
The journeys are not overly long and once you're on the train people can relax, talk together, read book, play games, have a picnic (pack food), walk around. To me especially with a family and kids this seems like it would be more relaxing then hussling around airports and taking flights.
