Italy: Umbria anniversary dinner

Hi Again,
It turns out we'll be celebrating our one-year wedding anniversary sept. 3 in Umbria (yay!) and I would love to surprise my husband with a romantic and fantastic meal. We'll be in Gubbio and will have a car. Any suggestions for a memorable day?
Thanks,
Deborah

Decisions, decisions...there are any number of possibilities. If you want to take a nice drive, you could go to Macerata in LeMarche and have dinner at da Secondo or drive to Orvieto and have dinner at I Sette Consoli. Both places are under 2 hours.

Hi Grid,

If it's not in the Winter, Orvieto is about 1:40 hr from Gubbio.

I can highly recommend lunch in the garden of I Sette Consoli
Pzza Sant’Angelo 1A
phone/fax 011 39 0763 343911

Fixed price lunch about 40E pp + wine.

Hi Gridskipper,
I agree with Ira's Orvieto suggestion. Also, consider La Fortezza in Assisi. We were there in June and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Nice atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food. Happy anniversary.

If you really mean dinner and not lunch, I would not suggest driving an hour and a half or two hours for dinner. Dinner would start at the earliest, 7:30 and you most likely won't be done until close to 10 pm. Starting to drive back to Gubbio then would be difficult. We were in Gubbio last Sunday for lunch. It took close to an hour for us to get there from a small village on the south shore of Lake Trasimeno, much much closer than Orvieto. There is no fast way in or out of Gubbio as the two main approaches are on narrow, two lane mountain roads. Very scenic during the day, but not roads I'd enjoy driving at night. Right in Gubbio is an excellent restaurant, Taverna del Lupo. Beautiful ambience, great food and wine list. Other closer options, but they would still involve driving at night, are Dal Pescatore in Pigge and Coccorone in Montefalco.
