My wife and I are traveling to Croatia in August. We leave Szeged Hungary on Aug 20
and probably overnight in Sisak on the way to Plitvicka Natl Park.2 nights there than
to Makarska and find accommodations either
there or at Brela or Baska Voda. From there
to Orasac 3 nights to visit Dubrovnic.
After that my question is should we do 2
nights on Korcula or Hvar?? Also as we than
are working our way north to Trogir (overnight) and either Opatija or Rovinj
a couple of nights is there an island we are
really missing that would surpass either
Korcula or Hvar?

My choices would be Hvar and Rovinj. Given the time you are traveling, be sure to have reservations in advance.

but am concerned about parking in the
old city I hear its a bear!

Sounds as though you would opt for
Hvar over Korcula if you had to choose.

Absolutely I would have reservations in August. It's the peak travel time and so many tourists from Italy and Germany flood into Croatia. I've been to Korcula but not Hvar. Everyone I know who has been to Hvar loves it. It's bigger and has more choices.

went to both in september 2003 and had no problem getting rooms. in august i believe you will get a room but if you are choosy e.g. if you would have problems with sharing a bathroom with one or two others, you are best to book in advance. Both islands were just beautiful but if you had to choose one I would choose Hvar, the reason being that Korcula is like a mini-Dubrovnik but Hvar is very different. Personally I would skip Makarska and go straight to Dubrovnik, then visit both Korcula and Hvar.

I would definitely reserve in advance for an August trip. You can always get something somewhere at the last minute but it could be far away from what you want to see. Most of the better rooms are sewed up in advance.
Both Hvar and Korcula are lovely but Hvar is better for nightlife. From Korcula however, you can take a day trip to Mljet which is a gorgeous island and national park.
If you're a beach person, don't skip Brela! It's one of Europe's finest.
Rovinj is most charming but if you can't find a place to stay, don't worry. You can stay elsewhere in Istria and visit.
