Lodging in Salt Lake City
We will be traveling back from Yellowstone with a night maybe two in SLC. Looking for recommendations on sights to see in SLC and areas for hotels. If we stay downtown, will we be walking distance to shopping and restaurants? Is there a better area of SLC we should look for hotels? Hoping to use Marriott points but can swap to something else if there is a not to miss spot. I Would love restaurant recommendations for SLC and Moab. TIA

I've stayed in SLC 3X (always downtown so can't help with other areas). I like the downtown area -- Temple Square, lots of restaurants, pubs, the large City Creek Shopping Center, some theaters/venues, seemed very safe walking around. I've not stayed there but know there is a Marriott straight down the street from Temple Sq and maybe 3 or 4 blocks from City Creek (I passed a few times when walking to the Eccles theater for shows)

This may be of little interest and may not work in your schedule, but...
If you are there on a Thursday night, going to the choir rehearsal at the Tabernacle is a wonderful experience -

The 2 closest Marriotts would be the SLC Marriott Downtown at City Creek and the AC hotel.
We were there for a conference years ago and it is still one of my favorite travel memories. I can't help you with hotel recommendations since it's been so long ago, but here's a list of ideas from TA -

For only one full day (or less?) and without something specific to see/do in SLC, I'd rather stay in Park City. I don't find downtown SLC very interesting or particularly walking friendly or appealing. Like many urban places, the commercial and office vacancy rates in the downtown core have not fully recovered from Covid days, so lots of empty store fronts. The additional time to get to PC is about 45 minutes and additional time from PC to Moab is minimal. There are multiple Marriott properties in Park City.
