Bamberg, Nuremberg, Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber

We are planning a trip in July. We will arrive in Bamberg in the afternoon. We are planning to spend 3 nights there seeing Bamberg and the surrounding areas. We then plan to spend a day in Nuremburg continuing to Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber. We were thinking of 3 additional nights between Nuremberg and Rothenburg, or nearby villages. How would you divide the time? 1 Night in Nuremberg and 2 in the Bamberg area or the reverse? Are we allowing too much time in this area. We are continuing to Innsbruck from there. We will be traveling by train.

Two nights in Rothenburg will suffice. If near-by village, how do you propose to get to the intended destination? Walk a few kilometers? Stick to your actual destinations. However, to get to Rothenburg by train I believe that you would transfer to a local train in Würzburg which has some notable sites. It probably could absorb a full day of your travels,

If you are going to Rothenburg, you might also consider taking a bus to Dinkelsbühl. This has many of the features of Rothenburg (walled town, etc), but fewer tourists.
