If I land at Cyril E. King Airport, what’s the easiest way to get to the snorkeling beaches at The Baths? Is public transportation reliable these days, or would it be better to arrange a transfer or private transport?

From Airport to Snorkeling Spot in The Baths

Hi everyone! 👋 If I land at Cyril E. King Airport, what’s the easiest way to get to the snorkeling beaches at The Baths these days? Is public transportation a good option, or would you recommend booking a transfer or private transport instead?

Using public transportation to get from the airport on St. Thomas to the Baths on Virgin Gorda will evolve taking at least two land taxi rides and a ferry trip, each way. Depending on the day of the week the ferry may make an intermediate stop on Tortola. The ferry ride, if non-stop, will take about 1 1/2 hours. If you travel on a day when the ferry stops in Tortola it will take almost an hour longer. Keep in mind too that the ferry schedules may not give you a whole lot of time to visit the Baths if you intend to do it a a day trip.

You are much better off arranging for a private tour. Check out the following

If either of these don’t work for you do an internet search for “St. Thomas to Virgin Gorda Day Trips” for more links.

Lastly, depending on the length of your tour, size of boat and number of people in your group expect to pay somewhere $225 to $300 per person.

The easiest way is to take a taxi from Cyril E. King Airport to either Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie ferry terminal, then catch a ferry or private water taxi over to Virgin Gorda. From there, grab a taxi to The Baths. There isn’t really public transportation that’ll take you all the way, if your budget allows booking a transfer or private water taxi like SeaHorse Water Taxi, Ocean Dreams, BVI Water taxi, St. Thomas Water taxi It saves time and makes the trip way smoother, especially with luggage or customs stops.

Appreciate the tips! I’ll definitely check out SeaHorse Water Taxi and your other suggestions, they all sound like great options!

Before the pandemic, I used the public ferry to get from St. Thomas to Virgin Gorda, and it was fine but slow and a bit hectic with luggage. On my last trip, I went with Seahorse Water Taxi, and the difference was incredible, everything was handled for us. They picked us up, loaded our bags, took care of all the customs and immigration, and we just sat back and enjoyed the ride with drinks. It was more expensive than the ferry, but the convenience and stress-free experience made it completely worth it.

If you have the budget, taking a Seahorse water taxi from Cyril E. King Airport to The Baths is the easiest and least stressful way. Public transport is cheaper, but it can be slow and less convenient.

It's crazy with the luggage, but if you're not too worried about your luggage getting crushed then it's fine. There are a lot more direct flights now from Puerto Rico straight into Virgin Gorda via tradewinds airline. If you haven't booked your full trip yet I would recommend this route as it's super comfortable and convienient. The staff at the Virgin Gorda airport are lovely. We went straight to the baths from flying into Virgin Gorda aiport and it was stress-free. Organised a jeep rental to be at the airport when we arrived, but a taxi would be about $15.
