California Wine Country plus Tomales Bay?

Hi. We're planning a trip to the Bay area, mostly to go to the wine area, with Healdsburg as a home base. I was thinking of adding on a few days on the coast and was looking at Tomales Bay. Is that a good place for a few days/nights? Would you look anywhere else instead? We're definitely interested in kayaking and like the small beach town vibe vs a resort. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

No advice on kayaking Tomales Bay but I have kayaked Monterey Bay and the Elkhorn Slough - both times with Monterey Kayaks. It was fun- good experience.

What time of year?

We haven't spent much time in that area in many years but really like Bodega Bay and the town of Bodega. Can't comment on the kayaking in either.

Tomales Bay has a couple of seafood restaurants along CA1. The other side is part of the Point Reyes area, and has a state park with small beaches.

Swimming is probably OK in Toma;es Bay but not on the ocean side of Point Reyes. However, it has a spectacular water view:

and wild life probably not seen near Bodega Bay.

This album might give you some ideas:

Inn at the Tides is popular at Bodega Bay. In Marshall is Nick’s Cove. Great restaurant and they have lodging; although I’ve never stayed, just eaten dinner and lunch.

I also have the same question! Tomales Bay looks beautiful, but I’m wondering if it’s the best choice for a few relaxing days with kayaking and small-town charm, or if there are better coastal spots nearby worth considering.
