Vienna apartment rented - convenient location?
Hello Fodorites. I've just rented an apartment in Vienna for 5 nights this fall. The tram stop is Schottentor Station, and the apartment is on Garrisongasse. We are comfortable using mass transportation, and we like to walk. This will be our first time in Vienna. Any opinion as to whether the apartment will be convenient to most museums and major sights? We would like to be in an area that has nice restaurants and fun window shopping, as opposed to a financial district that closes down in the evening. Thank you for your input.

The neighborhood is lovely, and convenient for sightseeing and shopping. From that street you're not more than a 5-7 minute from either a Straßenbahn (tram) or the U-Bahn (subway).
How do you define "nicer" restaurant? Some of the old Beisl (typical Viennese tavern or bistro) can be more charming than the upscale restaurants.

Hi, the Votivkirche is nearby. It’s recently been renovated. Beautiful exterior. Also not far away is Rathaus and the recently renovated Parlament building. .
In the area are many nice restaurants with the famous Cafe Landtman not far away.
Easy transportation from Schottentor to anywhere in the city.
Google maps works well in Vienna.
