Toll without E-ZPass in Virginia

I have read that I can pay toll online within 5 days after the trip as Missed toll payment, but which lane should I pass through at toll stations ? Any of them ?

Not all toll roads are under the purview of the Virginia DOT, and some roads don't offer a missed toll payment option. For roads that do offer this, online payment seems pretty simple. No experience with this in Virginia, but in California where this is offered it doesn't matter which lane you're in. Your license plate info is captured by camera, and they'll track you down if you don't pay.

[Raised Hand] Virginian-ish chiming in. Generally lived in this fabulous Commonwealth since 1993.

You can motor through any of the toll lanes. The company that operates the E-Z Pass system is all too happy to snap a pic of your tags and bill you later (to include the "courtesy fee" for the lack of a transponder.)

The take a pic of your license plate is called something like "Pay by Plate" .Many states, incl some roads in VA allow you to self report a "no EZ pass/missed toll/pay by plate" proactively rather than get a bill later which may include a fine and a rental car adder....

A quick internet search found this site for VA. I don't know if it's the official site or not, but it does direct you to the right place for specific roads. Since VA is a hodgepodge of agencies that run the toll roads you run the risk of getting multiple violations (and rental car adders) for each segement....

Thank you all !. Yes I checked the tollroadsvirginia.com. It seems I can pay within 5 days before I or the car rental receive the invoice with additional fees. Ok, I am going yo pay online within the 5 days on their website entering the plate number. So my concern was where to pass thru at the station. I see I can use anyway the E-Z Pass lane anyway even though I do not have the device and then the system gets the pic of the car plate. thank you

many of the toll systems now are simply overhead gantries like this one which span all lanes so it doesn't matter which lane you are in.
For those locations that still have booths, or at least separate lanes, any one that says EZ pass would be ok. Some states have gone completely electronic.
