Short Itinerary Review and Swiss Travel Pass Opinion Needed...

Hi,

Me and my wife are travelling to Switzerland for the 1st time. We have limited days in our itinerary, eagerly want to visit the valleys/alps and require some help to get a review done by you since you are the expert here. We also want get some insights as well on which travel pass would suit best as we are confused with multiple online articles. Thanking you in advance

August 2024

Day 1 – Land at Geneva early morning. Take a train to Montreux. Then take the golden pass line to Interlaken. Take another train to Lauterbrunnen. Check in at hotel. Sightseeing in Lauterbrunnen in evening.

Day 2 – Visit Grindelwald & Grindewald First. Hike to Lake Bachalpsee.

Day 3 – Take an early morning train to Jungfraujoch via Kleine Scheidegg.

Day 4 – Visit Wengen for sightseeing – Hike to Leiterhorn. Leave for Zurich by train in evening and spend the night there.

Day – 5 Leave for Zurich Airport.

As you want to see the Interlaken area only (as most first timers from America and Asia) you should check the Bernese Oberland Pass.
https://www.berneseoberlandpass.ch/prices-tickets/

BOP for 3 days: 240 CHF
GVA - Montreux full fare: 37 CHF
Montreux - Saanen half fare: 14 CHF
Saver day pass (52 CHF if bought well in advance for the last day
https://www.sbb.ch/en/buying/pages/kontingent/kontingent.xhtml

Totl 343 CHF

Sightseeing Lauterbrunnen: small place, nothing to see but American tourists
You can easily sleep at ZRH (Zurich airport) the last night. There are hotels in all price ranges.

Well, that's only partly true. There are some lovely waterfalls:

And spectacular scenery for those of us not jaded by living in Switzerland.

The word "Lauterbrunnen" means "clearwater*. There was always a lot of water there. In the Middle Ages the valley was uninhabited because of the danger of inondations.
"Grindel Wald" means "rocks and forest
"Wengen" means "clif, steep slope"
Muerren means "above the cliffs"
