Fort Mill, SC to Toms River, NJ

Driving to Toms River, NJ, can someone advise the best route as we want to avoid the Washington DC and Baltimore area on 95N. Appreciate any tips to avoid all the traffic. Also, as we will break the trip up is there a decent hotel in the Virginia area...ie a Marriott or Hampton Inn that is very clean. Prefer a quiet hotel .

You could take I-95 N to Richmond and then east 50 minutes on I-64 to historic Williamsburg which has a Marriott. Then go to Virginia Beach and north on on US 13 to US 9 in Delaware and north on US 9 to Toms River. Would have to take the Cape May-Lewes Ferry (reservations required).

Williamsburg, VA. Visit the Jamestown Settlement Museum, Colonial Williamsburg, 1607 Historic Jamestowne, Colonial National Historic Parks, walk around the 1693 William and Mary College campus, Williamsburg Botanical Garden, and Busch Gardens. Colonial Williamsburg located in the town of Williamsburg is a living history museum and a re-creation of the original 1600s settlement. It has actors dressed in period costumes doing things the original inhabitants did. The western Colonial National Historical Park has the site of Jamestowne, the first English settlement in North America and Old Church Tower.

Take I81 North to Harrisburg and then across to Toms River .
This is only a 10 hour drive. To me that is just not worth checking in and out of a motel.

I tried to post the google map that shows that route but it doesn't allow it. If you google the directions it only shows a route through D.C. but if you drag a point of the map up to Harrisburg you will get that route.
