Amsterdam trip itinerary
Hi
We are planning Amsterdam trip in August from the UK. It would be 4 nights and accomodation would be in city centre. I am not sure which transpirt card is the best or do we need one?
Day 1 arrive at the airport. Should we get uber to get to the hotel ( it is 15 min from Amsterdam central station)? Or should we get train to the station n then either walk or get tram? Keeping in view that we would have to drag luggage I am thinking of uber. Is it cheaper n will it be easily accessible?
After reaching will go toAnne frank house in the after noon followed by the evening cruise. Anne frank is just 15 min from hotel and cruise stop us in front of the Anne frank so I think we may not need tram. Should i buy ticket for museum in advance?
day 2: zaanse schans tour where meet up point is central station so will walk towards station.
day 3: giethoorn tour. This tour seems expensive around £340 for 4 adults via trip advisor. Its pick up point is hotel barbizon which meabd we need to find that place. I am looking for some tour which departs from station. Is there any such tour? Otherwise would have to buy this tour and need to get on tram to be there? How much will be the tram ticket?
day4: madurodam park visit from amsterdam central. I have seen that train journey to den hague then tram to madurodam has journey cost of aroud £100 for all 4 of us and then £15 ticket / person for entry in park. I have looked into tours too but they are v long around 10 hours and includes other cities too. Any alternative suggestions how to get there? Should i buy ticket in advance?
after that would come back to the city and visit youseum. Its a 15 min tram from central station.
now keeping in view this itinerary do I need to buy transport card? I think on day 4 we can get transport card but this card is only for roaming around amsterdam whereas madurodam is outside the city.
we'll explore the rest of the city in between the free time.

Welcome to Fodor's.
Day 1 where is the hotel? That will help decided your best transport options. I assume for only four nights you will only have small bags.
For the Anne Frank house you need to buy timed entry tickets as soon as they go on sale on their website. They go on sale on the first Tuesday of every month for the coming month. https://www.annefrank.org/en/museum/tickets/
Can you check in and dump your bags early so you can go there? Remember to allow enough time for the visit before your evening canal trip.
Day 2 With a bit of research you can easily do the Zaanse Schans tour yourselves but I can understand wanting a tour.
Day 3. Why Giethoorn? It is a lovely place but a very long way from Amsterdam, which is why the tour is expensive. It is pretty touristy nowadays, sadly, and should the Chinese tourists return next summer it will pretty much be over run
Day 4. Madurodam is in the Hague, so again not exactly handy for Amsterdam but doable as a day trip. Get the train to the Hague, spend some time there visit Madurodam, the Escher museum, see the parliament buildings, the Royal Palaces, Panorama Mesdag or go to Scheveningen and spend some time by the sea. No need for a tour.
Spending every day away from Amsterdam seems odd to me, but it is your trip. No desire to see the Van Gogh Museum? The Rijksmuseum?

You are spending hardly any time in Amsterdam. Unless you've been there before, I would drop some of the day trips, particularly Giethoorn. Any particular reason for visiting Madurodam? Otherwise Den Haag is well worth a visit as Hetismij says. Easy enough to do on your own.
Get your Anne Frank tickets asap as they sell out quickly.
For transport in Amsterdam get an OV card and put some money on it: https://www.ov-chipkaart.nl/everythi...r/tourists.htm

They may not need an OV chipkaart tulips. During 2023 OV-Pay is being introduced, using contactless bank and credit cards, including foreign banks with V-Pay, Maestro, Mastercard or Visa, or with Google Wallet or Apple Pay on your phone.
Some people are using it now, not sure when it rolls out generally. It isn't available in Friesland yet.
Still have to check in and out of course, or it could get expensive very quickly.

Hi et4003! I was in Amsterdam quite recently and I recommend you to pay attention to these locations as well:
1 The Rijksmuseum: This world-renowned museum features a collection of Dutch art and history, including works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and other masters.
2 The Anne Frank House: This museum is dedicated to the young diarist who documented her family's experiences hiding from the Nazis during World War II.
3 The Van Gogh Museum: This museum houses the world's largest collection of Vincent van Gogh's paintings, drawings, and letters.
4 The Jordaan neighborhood: This charming neighborhood is known for its narrow streets, canals, and small, independent shops and restaurants.
5 The Amsterdam Canals: Amsterdam's canals are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are a must-see for any visitor. Take a boat tour to see the city from a different perspective, or walk along the canals to get a feel for the city's historic charm.
Have a good trip!

The only problem with the new system is sorting out the "abonnementen" that people have for NS trains, but it will be a big improvement for casual OV users and tourists.

I would say you should spend at least 3 days in Amsterdam. One of the most walkable and beautiful cities in the world.

Just FYI for Anne Frank House. Tickets go on sale every Tuesday at 10CET for the following 6 week period NOT the first Tuesday of the month for tickets the following month. I know this as tomorrow, March 7 is the first Tuesday of the month for tickets to be available for April and that is NOT the case. I'm screwed.

Oh jan47ete!!! Thank you for the heads-up as I was to the understanding I could purchase tickets August 1st for Anne Frank House to go there on September 26th. In actual fact what you are saying, then, is for attendance Sept 26th, I could not purchase tickets until August 15th, which is 6 weeks prior?
And did you miss out on obtaining tickets for April? So sorry, if that is the case!!! Who would think April would be that busy with visitors!
