I will be in Provence (Aix, st.remy both as bases) in September and would love to visit a few wineries/vineyards for wine tasting. Any recommendations? Looking for the most beautiful locations.

Not much around Aix. From St Remy, the Luberon (Gordes, Rousillon, Bonnieux, Menerbes) have some vineyards. East of Mazan & Bedoin. Best are in the Cote du Rhone up north - Beaumes de Venise, Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Sablet, Seguret (explore).

Some great rosé wine comes from Aix area so would have thought there are wineries in the vicinity. There are certainly vineyards in the area although I don’t know any myself to recommend to you as I’m more familiar with wineries in the Var.

If you only have time for 1 winery - Beaucastel in Chateauneuf du Pape is where I would go. This is from my Provence itinerary.

As I remember, the tour is about 1½ hours and it’s quite informative. Book a couple of days (perhaps a week) ahead. Getting to Beaucastel is a little difficult. I’ve wandered back & forth a few times – even after getting there OK once. Beaucastel is just south & a little east of Orange. I think I got there by going to Jonquieres then traveling on the road that is a bridge over the A7 just to the west & near the freeway exit. Follow the signs to Beaucastel.

Beaucastel makes excellent wines. Much better than the pedestrian wines of the Cotes du Rhine.

Gigondas isn't bad - for a Cotes du Rhone/Rhine wine.

Gigondas! The memories! 40 odd years ago before Gigondas had an AOC, on a New Year's Eve, the first wine I ever got drunk on.

I am with Michael-I was going to suggest Chateau La Coste because it is 20 minutes from Aix. We are going there for lunch at the Francis Mallman restaurant and to see the art and architecture but they do have tastings as well. They even have package tours with art exploration and tastings I think. All their wines are organic
