Iceland in late-September

Hello,

I am thinking of booking travel to Iceland mid to late-September. Would love to hear from seasoned travelers if this is a good time of the year for a visit?

Thanks in advance!

I’ve been to Iceland twice. Once in June with endless daylight. The other in early August. Still had quite a bit of daylight but the weather was quite a bit colder and rainier. (Although I think I hit a cold snap and it should have been better than it was.). From my vantage point, September would not be the ideal time to go but it also depends on where in Iceland you plan to be and what you want to see and do.

As kja used to say, “YMMV”.

We have been to Iceland three times. October, late August and February. All of those were great times to go, just different of course. Our October trip was the middle of the month and we had good weather. September and October are when things start to change, but it is still beautiful then. I would go in a heartbeat! We are headed back next summer for our 4th trip.

We went to Iceland a few years ago during the first 2 weeks of September. We definitely had days of mist and overcast skies, as well as some light rain, primary in the south (our first week) and around Husavik. However, we also had many days of brilliant sun. We were actually lucky that year; a colleague had just been in Iceland during late August and had torrential rain, which we never experienced.
