Hotels in Madrid and Barcelona

Looking for hotel suggestions in Madrid and Barcelona. Like older repurposed buildings. Character. Centrally located. Over 2 stories must have elevator. Like breakfast included but not a deal breaker. Prefer under $150 US.

On my last trip to Madrid, I stayed at the:

* Principal Madrid Hotel, which is right on Gran Via at the Calle de Alcala - across from the iconic Metropolis building. It's a cool old building, centrally located, and very close to both Metro and Cercanias stations.
* Hotel Vincci Soho on Calle del Prado, about 2 blocks from the Plaza de Santa Ana. This hotel is in a little more quiet location, but still close to a lot of things. Plaza de Santa Ana has bunch of restaurants and there are plenty of other places to eat and drink close by. Metro stops aren't quite as close, but there are a couple within a few blocks.

My hotel choice was because of its proximity to the Prado but the bus and taxi stand right outside, made getting to the center very easy:
NH Paseo del Prado
Plaza Cánovas del Castillo, 4. 28014 Madrid

Here's my trip report with more details in case you're interested:

Have a great trip.

We also stayed at The Principal a few years ago and were very with happy with our choice. It is set back off of Gran Via, quiet, easy to walk to Retiro Park and museums.

We stayed twice at the Catalonia las Cortes, also near Plaza Santa Ana. Nice breakfast included as well as snacks in the evening (soups, little sandwiches). Ask for a room on an upper floor.

Yes, this place is really nice. I have been to Catalonia las Cortes. The view from the upper floor is really beautiful the serene view makes your morning priceless.

In Barcelona we chose an aparthotel at the end of a six week driving tour. We were very pleased with the Hispanos7 Suizas near La Sagrada FamiliaWe had a two br/2bath, full kitchen, W/D plus a very helpful front desk which made dining reservations for us .

more new options

Thanks a bunch to everyone for your input. It is invaluable. I have expanded my horizons a little bit and decided that an apartment for 6 nights in both Barcelona and Madrid should also be considered. A great place to relax in the evenings and even eat in when we decide were to tired to go out or just to relax during siesta time in the afternoons. Any additional input would be appreciated. I LOVE THE FORUMS.
