All of South Lake Tahoe under mandatory evacuation order
All of SLT from Meeks Bay all the way around to the Nevada state line is under a mandatory evacuation order. The only way out for most is Hwy 50 east into Nevada - either over to Carson City or to hwy 28 to northshore. Earlier today it was taking 5+ hours to get from the Y to Glenbrook. 89 is not available - only open for first responders.

We know half a dozen families/friends who have lived permanently in the area for decades. We haven't tried to contact them (they're probably just a tad busy at the moment), so we can only hope everything is ok. Fingers crossed for everyone affected.

Its such a horrible/confusing/heartbreaking situation. The summit has been breached and there are fires in Christmas Valley and Meyers while mandatory evacuation orders have been extended into Nevada including Kingsbury Grade and Roundhill. But the Casino hotels at Stateline are not included and they are housing evacuees.

This guy has been doing nearly daily briefings on the Caldor and other fires... Good explanations, interesting wildfire info, and super maps. Today's report:

Such a devastating situation. I'm so sorry for everyone affected by this.
I have cousins who live in southern CA and have had to evacuate in the past due to fires. Fortunately their homes were okay. These fires seem to get worse every year.
