8 weeks travelling around Spain and Portugal

I'm trying to plan places to visit in spain and Portugal for 2 months...
I will be travelling on my own in October November.
I start in malaga and finish in malaga .I enjoy site seeing , old towns , architecture. Ive
been thinking of going to rhonda, mojacar, Valencia, Barcelona, San Sebastian, Bilbo,
Porto, lisbon, Seville.
I would be very grateful, if you could recommend me any other areas..
would it be best for me to drive or use public transport...

Many thanks
Ian

Instead of starting and ending in the same city, consider flying into one location and out of another. As a rule, you can search for such routes using a "multi-city" option.

8 weeks will go very quickly, as Iberia is a destination-rich part of the world. You would benefit from consulting a good guidebook or two, perhaps including the Michelin Green Guides. And if you'll look, you'll find a LOT of trip reports and trip planning threads on this forum -- they'll provide a wealth of information.

With an interest in architecture, I'm surprised you didn't mention Cordoba, Granada, or Salamanca.

Drive if you want to see the more remote areas, such as Portuguese villages like Monsaraz and towns like Bragança or the prehistoric carvings in the upper Douro valley.

Many thanks for the advice and information..
I love scenery.... I was also thinking about the "picos de europa"
And places around Madrid.... Segovia & toledo..
Driving into towns would scare me...
As I will be on a budget I don't know wether to use the trains or buses...
I will read up on it.

The Picos de Europa are very scenic; Segovia and Toledo are gems. Your difficulty will be in deciding what NOT to visit!

For transportation options, consult rome2rio.com -- just be sure to click through to the underlying sites, as the main web pages aren't sensitive to seasonal variation in schedules.

For budget options, consult the Rough Guide and Lonely Planet. The costs of the guidebooks will be nugatory in comparison to the cost of your trip.

For info on traveling by train, and how to buy the cheapest tickets, see: https://www.seat61.com/

i consider the Alhambra in Granada the single best sight in Spain, but also consider Salmanca in addition to the places on your list. In Portugal do not miss Coimbra.

The Picos area is beautiful, and there is a small local train "Feve" I think its called, but this is a very slow way to travel, its used as a link between the villages in the area. Buses are the mainstay of public transport in Spain IF there is no train links. There is pretty much always a bus option. Leon is a good option as a base for the Picos, an interesting city that is on the Camino trail. We will be back in this area for NYE this year, staying in a Parador this time. Enjoy your vacation.

Consider visiting the regions of Galicia and Extremadura, both border Portugal. In Galicia, Santiago de Compostela is a gem. In Extremadura, Caceres, Merida and Trujillo are very worthwhile.

Learning Spanish might come in handy, but it will certainly not make you blend in with the local population, if that is what you mean by "natives".
