Which area in Phoenix to spend one night?

Planning an April road trip of Arizona and will be spending 2 nights and one day in Phoenix. Is there a particular neighborhood that's more interesting/charming than others? We are a middle-aged, active couple not interested in night life. We like to walk, eat good food; I'm interested in the Heard Museum and maybe a tour of Taliesin West. Will be doing more hiking later in our trip. Hotel recommendations welcomed too (moderately priced, good location).
Thanks in advance.

The hot new area in Phx for restaurants is north central Phoenix which is just north of Heard a few miles. Two hotels in this area are Pointe Squaw Peak Hilton and the Best Western on Northern and 18th street. If you choose to take a beautiful desert hike, Piestewa Peak is walking distance away and recommended as a beautiful location from which to watch a sunset. Other nearby attractions are Biltmore hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright protege and Biltmore Fashion Park. Taliesin is not nearby but is an easy freeway trip. NC Phx location is also good freeway access to your Apache Trail trip. On the way there is also the Desert Botanical Gardens.

Other options are the usual tourist location of north Scottsdale. Or, if you enjoy college town atmosphere, you could go to downtown Tempe area.

Knowing your itinerary before & after the proposed Phoenix stop might get you some additional ideas.
