Bad Wengen weather 8 to 12 Sep - change plans?
Hi I am visiting Paris 4 to 8 Sep, Wengen (Switzerland) 8 to 12 Sep and Lucerne (Switzerland) 12 to 15 Sep on a honeymoon.
I just saw the forecasts and for the Wengen days 8 to 12 Sep it looks miserable with rain all day every day. Today is the last day I can cancel my Wengen hotel. Should I cancel and go somewhere else where weather is better. Any suggestions much appreciated. We like nature therefore we're looking forward to Wengen but don't think it's the best location given weather forecasts. Maybe can go to another nearby place in Switzerland or another nearby country (maybe even to a beach). Flying back from Zurich to London on 15 Sep evening so need to be back then. Would like to keep Lucerne booking as is as is as temperatures will still be decent in rain.

September 9-10 is Jungfrau Marathon. Trains will be PACKED and hotels will be filled. Necker is incorrect about Wengen hotels. I have stayed in Wengen during the Marathon and headed to Schynige Platte for the day to escape the crowds.

It appears the rain will be widespread. I checked Paris & Dijon which is on your train route, assuming you're taking a train to Wengen. Even Rome will have a couple of rainy days forecast but much better than where you've planned to go.
I think you'd be smart to cancel any destination where your activities are largely outdoors and go south, if it's some sunshine you'd like. The south of France will be better, even London is forecast to be better. Or maybe an island, Malta has little to no rain anticipated and easy to get to, likely direct flights from Paris.

Hi taffer87,
I'm going to dissent here ....
I live in a mountain town, and I've been visiting mountain towns since the 1990s. I've learned that it is **impossible** to predict the weather in a mountain town more than 24 hours in advance; indeed, even 12 hours in advance is often very wrong.
I say it's still a crapshoot. You won't know until the night before or the day you wake up if the day will include rain. It well might, but then again, it could well be clear.
I think there's plenty to do if you do have a rainy day - take a train to Bern or to Thun, both cities have arcaded shopping streets, and there are plenty of inside activities/museums at Bern. In Thun, see the castle, then take the ferry to Oberhofen to see the castle there, then take the ferry to Spiez and enjoy the town. Take the ferry to Ballenberg and enjoy the outdoor museum (with an umbrella).
Anyway, have fun as you plan!
