OK 3 are now answered! Thanks Dukey!

ALDI has an interesting history - yes first real discount grocery in Europe I think - at least one with many stores all over Germany - the company was onwed by two brothers - Albrecht Bros I believe - and they split the company in Aldi Sud and Aldi North -splitting up Europe and even U S - one Adli branch operates Aldis here and the other branch Trader Joe's - they are not all at related businessI believe.

1. Ashford International, Lille and occasionally Calais Fréthun.

10 - It must be 60 years since I was taken to see it, but the only conceivable answer to the question is "Because it's there".

9. Punts, if you mean Lübbenau, but that's hardly unique to either of them.

6. As far as I know, it's the other way round, the mountain range had the name first: The Carthusian monks named their order after the location of the first monastery, La Grande Chartreuse, in the Chartreuse mountains.

8. ALbrecht DIscount - Albrecht is the surname of the founders and owners.

yes quokka - that makes sense for the exact word origin but I was thinking the potent brew the monks concocter popularized the name -but seems you are right as question was phrased. Thanks.
