New Dublin Museum
A new museum about the Irish diaspora has just opened in Dublin.

I visited this today. It is well done with relevant use of digital technology. You walk through the 18 themed rooms most with wall short displays and interactive touch screens to learn about the Irish diaspora. Presentations in each room were short and to the point. I spent 50 minutes reading all the information and did all the interactive activities. It would be interesting to small children also.
It is a private museum at 16EU. For those using Heritage Island Discount Pass, you get a tiny discount. They mentioned it opened only a month ago. In most rooms we went through, we were the only ones in the room. For time being, advance booking does not seem necessary.
It is located in the basement of International Finance Center with ground level being a mall. It is a cheap place to find lunch targeted to office workers who either buy things there or brought take out sandwiches from elsewhere.
To get there from the South side at this point, Luas bus would be most convenient. The Luas bus runs while the tram is not running between The Point and Jervis.
If you are a family with children, there is another private museum, Jeanie Johnston Tall ship on river practically in front of the EPIC Ireland. About half of the visitors on mandatory tour were Irish family with small children. It is a 50 min guided tour that explains the ship voyage part of the Irish diaspora. Although most of the time is spent listening to the guide talk in the cabin, the talk was interested enough to keep small children engaged the whole time.

We went to EPIC Ireland a couple of days ago as well - fantastic use of digital technology to tell stories from the Irish diaspora. It was very well done and very informative. It was pretty empty when we went on the bank holiday - we were unnecessarily concerned that it was going to be a zoo.
