Appalachian Trail with kids

Any parents of kids out there who have hiked Blood Mountain? We used to hike it regularly when we lived in Atlanta before we had kids. I remember it being a nice hike, and we took several non-hiking friends on it. I don't remember it being super challenging. Anyway, I ask because we are considering a trip back east and wanted to hike up Blood Mountain while we're there. Really, for sentimental reasons as our dog (the kid before the kids) adored that hike and our family of 5 wanted to take his ashes up there. It's hard for me to see the hike from a parent perspective. Our kids are decent hikers - they've made it all the way to the top of the Colorado Sand Dunes (among other challenging hikes). What do you think, parents?

How old are the kids?
Here's one mom's report -

That's a very cool reason for wanting to make the hike again. My best to you and your First Kid.

If you do come back and want to do another hike, the Hike Inn is a fun adventure. Reservations are hard to come by but it's wonderful. Five miles in, overnight at the lodge and five miles back.
