We will be in LV Dec 16-19..What do I expect for weather? Anyone know is if any of the hotels does something special for Christmas we should not miss? Any neat/ not to be missed eateries and not necessarily the expensive ones in the hotels? Thanks

I have been there during that time of year a few times - it can be quiet for Vegas. You should be able to get a good deal on a hotel. A few of the shows might be "dark" so check into that.

It snowed last year when I was there for my birthday - it did not "stick" but it was chilly!

Check averages on weather.com, but be prepared for some cold winds. I personally haven't been in LV in December. My MIL likes the decorations & light show downtown (the Fremont Street Experience) at Christmas.

As mentioned above, expect cooler weather, 50's during the day. There really is no slow time in LV anymore, it may be quite busy as it has been the last two years we've ventured to the strip during that time... person to person. There were a lot of asian visitors. Don't know if it has to do with differing holiday times.

The cafe in the Paris is quite good for a reasonably priced meal. And the Grand Luxe Cafe (part of the Cheesecake Factory) are decently priced. I think you'll find dining has become quite expensive if you've visited before, meals at 5* restaurants have been going up about $8 per entree item. Also there's Olives in the Bellagio but that may be on the upper end of your budget. Hope this helps.

I liked the 24 hour cafe in the Paris myself. Also, Il Fornaio in NYNY. Downtown, I liked the cafe in the Golden Nugget and the Triple 7 Brew pub at the Main Street Station. For a reasonable buffet, the Orleans and the Palms have good ones as well as Main Street Station's.

Yes, I've really noticed a big difference the past few years. Don't know what it is, perhaps they get excellent deals from Asia or maybe it is just because there are no holidays at that time for eastern religions?

I know that dh and I thought we were "all that" because we got a room comp'd last year and took advantage of it for my birthday and we were surprised as dh is not that much of a gambler to be rated high enough by todays Vegas standards - he won a little over 1,500 or so the summer before so we figured that was why and he played for a number of hours - but never over 100.00 a hand and in Vegas? That is nothing as you know. But we were thrilled - well, checking in there were about 10 Asian couples and in speaking with them, they have never even gambled! They were on the same comp. It just must have been a slow season.

This year we got the 59.00 a night rate during the same period. Not free!

Anyway - I would love a GTG and do love Vegas to visit!

I don't understand the comp thing either. I know that some people that sign up for poker tournaments from out of state get comp hotel stays. A friend of mine's co-worker from PA won 25k on a progressive slot and she didn't get one comp! I really don't know how it works. When my dad and friends visit his room is always comped at the Suncoast Casino by my house, byt I spend a lot of time there when other friends and family visit using my player's card. I love hearing stories like yours, comps are the way to go, and it's a comp town.

To kmkrnn there are some festivals of lights off the strip, one run by a charitabe foundation and one that is a large group of homes spanning several blocks with fantastic decorations. Pick up a local newspaper when you arrive or when I see an advertisement I will post back. Also Opportunity Village has a festival of lights (west side of town), the other two are east and about 10 mins from the strip.

The dining options in Vegas are like no other place. Every option and a lot are way over the top. There are even a couple of really good Hamburger places, that have anything from Cavier topped, to hamburger dessert. Any of the cirque shows are expensive, but are worth seeing at least one time during your life. If you don't gamble, a trip to Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon, or Zion might be good for a day. Tons of good places to eat even in the shopping areas.

Where are you staying?
I love having drinks at the Voodoo Lounge before they start charging at the door..great views of Vegas.
Love eating at the Wynn..Daniel Boulud's brasserie is really good and the water show is something to see.
I love having breakfast at the Horshoe/Binion's downtown for the $4.99 Ham steak breakfast..it's a fav among locals and tourists..
