New Dress Code & Rules for Angkor Wat

They will now be enforcing the dress code; no uncovered shoulders, and no shorts or skirts above the knees. Selfies with monks, mooning the temples, buying items or giving money to children are discouraged.

Sounds like it's about time. I am so glad I went in 2002 and 2004.

Would be nice if Luang Prabang enforced a dress code, too. Respectful dress disappeared there some time between 2004 and 2011.

I'm so glad they are being specific about a dress/behavior code. They shouldn't have to specify these things but so many people are just clueless. And I agree that Luang Prabang could benefit from a dress/behavior code.

Thanks for posting this, lcuy!

Aspara is finally looking down upon us, and inspiring those down below to set up rules, when people with no morals ruin it for the rest of us.

I dress conservatively when I travel, so I am offended by women, never Americans, who wear shorty shorts and tank tops, and they are typically the ones who should be covered up. Yuck.

Aspara, can you also banish the rotten people who "order" me to get out of the way when they want to take a picture? Tell them that I have just as much right to stand there as they do.

Thanks for the great post, Icuy.

Making a rule and then enforcing it ain't easy, but good luck.

Now that the world is a global village, it's allowing too much opportunity for global village idiots, who half the time don't even know where they are, and treat wherever that place is like a cheap theme park.

Stay clear of hotels that cater for tour groups. Pack 'em in, feed 'em, get rid of 'em, and welcome in the next lot. No thanks.

Did the Apsara Authority ban sunrise viewing for a while is the author of the article a bit clueless?

"Starting Jan. 1, Angkor Wat will open two hours earlier at 5:30 a.m. for those who want to witness sunrise at the temples."

I agree about the dress code and I'd also include stiletto heels. However I don't think its enforceable.

What is it with selfies everywhere? A lot of young tourists would have thousands of photos of themselves and none of the country.

I think they are opening the ticket offices earlier, for people who didn't buy their pass the night before.
