Wintering and Working in Panama
Hi all,
We’ve never been to Panama but we’re looking for someplace new to remote work and spend 4-6 weeks avoiding the snow at home. We’re looking for a town that is safe and may be walkable as I like to walk (alone) several miles a day. Having some shops and restaurants nearby a plus, a view or near water also nice but not a must. Is there any place in Panama you would recommend?
TIA!

You say "working in Panama". Do you mean the ability for working remote from a job you already have? Or finding a employment in Panama? And are you wanting to find a local hotel for the stay, or rent an apartment, or a condo, or a resort? If you're going to be working online then you need decent dependable wifi at a minimum. Do you want a kitchen and cooking facilities? I'm no expert on Panama but have spent some time in Mexico and renting there so these are details that will help people chime in.

Hi Suze, Thanks for your response and all good questions to help clarify what we’re looking for. We have jobs that we can do from anywhere. We would work from our laptops and phones. I was thinking about renting a small house or apartment through AirBNB or VRBO that has a kitchen. We don’t really want to be in a city. A town where we could shop for groceries and maybe eat out occasionally. We would definitely need good internet. We would get a rental car if necessary or if in a walkable town maybe just rent on occasion to explore on the weekends. Thanks again.

Good luck in your search. I could help a bit with Mexico (Puerto Vallarta) but I don't know about being not in a city but having reliable internet service, car rental, walking to restaurants, etc. That could be tricky. Interesting you have chosen Panama. Again, sorry Fodor's is so slow and hope someone else might chime in with something more helpful. Might check over on Trip Advisor Destination Forums for more replies (I don't know Panama branch there but various Mexico and Hawaii forums are quite active). suze

Thanks Suze. I guess the Panama forum isn’t a very active one. I also posted on Trip Advisor. We chose Panama as someplace we haven’t been to yet. We also need to be in a similar time zone to home due to work. Thanks for responding.

You're very welcome. Not only the Panama forum, Fodor's isn't very active on any of the countries on this branch. Hopefully the folks on Trip Advisor can help you out. I'm on the Puerto Vallarta Mexico forum over there daily, don't know the good people on the Panama branch or how active that one is. Best wishes, sounds like a wonderful plan!
