I have my atlas out in a feeble attempt to follow the route of the Tour de France, and I forgot how heavy the atlas is. Paper maps are a better choice, I think.

hi, milestogo, i can't help with the tolls, but regarding the petrol stations, they seem to change every time we go to France. This last weekend, we stopped at a Carrefour supermarche for petrol, intending to pay with cash, and the first mistake we made was getting in the "card only" lanes. it then took us ages to work out how to open the little door to put the card in, put in the number, put it in again, dispense the petrol, get the receipt, etc.

but we got there in the end. next time it would be a lot easier.

general advice - for your first venture onto a petrol station forecourt, pick a time which isn't too busy and you're not desperate for petrol, make sure you're in the right lane and dispensing the right fuel for your card, and take your time. and do it at a manned station during daylight so if the worst comes to the worst, you can get help.
