Thank you both - maitaitom - do go to Arches, beautiful place. But not a place I'd be caught dead in during the summer.

Love your trip report. Brought back some great memories of travels in North America.

Wish we were in Utah, Mel. Unfortunately health issues have put a stop to our prancing around the world. Great while it lasted.

Agreed. We were there in October 2017 and Moab was a zoo. There were big lines to get into Arches on the day we went to Islands in the Sky, but if you hike a little you leave a chunk of the crowds behind.

I'm very sorry to hear that marg. I wish you the best.

FWIW I'd take Australia over Utah in a NY minute

Thank you sundowner.

Lee Ann - yeah, from what I understand October is THE time to go. We're considering a return visit in the dead of winter.

Glad you enjoyed the drive on 128. We were in Moab in early December last year (and also stayed at the Hyatt Place) and didn't have any issues with crowds.

Sorry, it was early November! We were supposed to go in early December but had to reverse the order of our trip at the last minute. It was dry, sunny and 50's/60's during the day, perfect hiking weather. We got a "you must be from Colorado" when we chose to sit outside to eat (we're from CA but the damp, foggy part).

Don't want to deter you as we still had a great time, but following are pictures from my trip December 7th & 8th 2013. Arches was actually closed on the 8th so went up to Dead Horse Point:

Next two trips we went in early May - fantastic but much busier. I believe our December weather was unusual.

Thanks for that Dave, might have to reconsider - we have plenty of that white stuff right here at home.

I love your report and pics! We camped in Arches May 2018. It was absolutely beautiful except we were chewed up by No-See-Ums. We've also been a couple of times in late October, stayed in Moab and had perfect weather.

Enjoyed the TR! You helped me so much on our New Zealand trip last year. We are in Taos, finishing up a month long Southwest trip. Left May 12th, hit Sedona, Flagstaff, Page, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde ( hit Hovenweep on the way), Durango, Ouray, Pagosa Springs, Taos and we are stopping in Pinetop, AZ and Lake Havasu before home to LA. We had never been to any of the places before, what beautiful country. Glad you guys had a good time.

How do you had pics to a TR? They are such a nice touch.

Tdiddy - for the best explanation, take a look at the FAQ section at the top of this page.

The fast and dirty explanation - when typing in the reply box, you'll see a photo icon in the top banner, you just click on that icon and follow the prompts from there.

I'm looking at the icon right now as I type this, but I don't know how to post a screen capture of it.
