The above comments by sassafrass could also easily be applied to users of rolling/ trolley cases. I have lost count of the number of time I have suffered bruised ankles because people forget that their cases are trailing for a metre behind them, especially in the confines of an airport. Same in the aisle of a plane. Unless you are physically infirm, just carry the backpack or case no need to put it in your back or extend the handles until you are off the plane.
