Where should I stay for honeymoon in Playa Del Carmen?

I don't want to do an all-inclusive.
Budget is $2K including air fare.

I'm thinking Mosquito Blue. How close is it to the beach and the Mayan ruins?

Any other suggestions? La Tortuga is booked when I want to go, mid-May.

Look into Deseo also.

Look at playadelcarmeninfo.com for some hotels. Also locogringo.com has a few.
Closest ruins are Tulum, about an hour away.
Beach is about 2 1/2 blocks away from Mosquito Blue.
Deseo is very cool.

I've heard (or should I say, read) that Deseo is loud and not a good place to stay. Any truth to that?

Thanks for the info.

It could be true that it gets rowdy due to the hipster factor.

Since you are going in off-season, Deseo should have most of their rooms available.

Do NOT stay in one of the lounge view rooms. They are above the bar area, and could get a little noisy.

BUT, every time I have been at the bar in May, it was very subdued and not loud at all. It's more of a see and be seen place as opposed to a loud party club atmosphere.

I would say ask for a quiet room and you would be fine.

No...it's on the west side of 5th Ave. A couple of blocks off the beach.

Try Shangri-La Caribe - we loved it there - beautiful beach - brekafast and dinners included but cheap enough so you could still eat out.
