When should I purchase airline tickets

I'm going to Playa de Coco for my 50th B'day. I want to purchase the airline tickets but they are expensive. To Liberia from Newark airport is $750.00. Do you think I should maybe wait. My friend said wait until after Labor Day and the prices of gas should go down. Any suggestions. I don't want us to take more than 9 hrs. to or from on our flight time plus layovers.

You might try JFK instead. JetBlue started flying to Liberia.

Without knowing what month your trip is, it's hard to say what a reasonable airfare will be. Tickets around the holidays tend to be very expensive.

<and the prices of gas should go down>

I wouldn't count on that.

What month are you traveling? Also have you priced different days of the week (going midweek can often save money on a plane ticket).

I would wait

with market crash today

oil dropped to below $83 per barrel

gas prices and airfare prices will drop a lot in fall.

Personally get first class for the price of coach on

Spirit.com Goes into SJO from under $99 each way

have gone down for $39 on sales sometimes free woth FF miles

can save hundreds doing that and renting a car

servicecarrental.com

Excellent sales also aa.com jetblue.com

www.kayak.com/buzz good screening site for the majors

Happy Hunting!

We have gambled and won. We have gambled and lost. Wait or buy, you ARE gambling.

Not sure when you're going, but I would probably wait. It can't get worse, can it?!

We are going in February and bought our tickets on Orbitz. Then if someone else buys the same ticket, you get a refund. I know this works because I have received refunds before.

I booked my trip with Orbitz in May for (Aug. 20th trip, can't wait) I would checking airfare prices each day to see if they had gone up or down (I read someplace that the lowest fare's are displayed on tuesday or wednesdays) our trip for 4 from Newark to San Jose is $1890 (for a direct flight). After I purchases my tickets the price kept going up so I lucked out. If you watch for a couple of weeks you will get a feel for the pricing.
I just checked orbitz and form Newark to Liberia is currently running Total airfare, taxes and fees: $ 653.84 per person with 1 stop each way. Or Non-stop on Expedia for $692 (that is with United, but Sunday to Sunday). Good Luck

I'm not sure when you're going, but right now there are some crazy cheap r/t fares from NYC to Liberia -- like, just under $300 on American. For some dates in January through June and beyond. I'd jump on it if you can.
