Tren de la Costa

We are here in BA (and loving it), Had planned to go to Colonia but no ferries available for the day we need. So weŽre going to go to Tigre. Plan to take the regular train up but maybe Tren de la Costa back. I know we have to transfer to get back to our hotel (Amerian near Retiro station). Can anyone tell me how that is done. If Sox is out there, I know you did that same thing. Thanks so much!

Hi, Jen!

Going back to BA on the "Tren de la Costa", this railway ends in Olivos. The name of the last station is "Maipú". Then, you have to board the regular line to get back to Retiro. It should not be a problem at all, because the stations are connected.

Remember that with the "Tren de la Costa" you can get off and back on the train as often as you wish, with the same ticket.

Have a great time in Tigre.

Thanks so much for the info, avrooster! We are loving BA! Did a city tour this morning so we got our bearings and now we are going to head back to Recoleta and wander on our own. Tonight a tango show and tomorrow San Telmo and maybe back to Recoleta for the craft fair. Had dinner last night at El Mirasol based on recommendations here and had a fabulous meal. I think I have just become addicted to dulce de leche. Had some crepes filled with it for desert last night and I thought IŽd died and gone to heaven! IŽll post a full trip report when I get home. Or maybe IŽll do bits at a time since I have internet access here.

Just thought of a question. Do you have any recommendations regarding the best stops to get off from the Tren de la Costa? Most of the names mean nothing to me.

There is another station right after San Isidro (going towards BA) where they also have a flea market on Sundays.

But I guess this is too late to help you.

Have a safe trip home, come back soon and send us all your friends and relatives.

Who did you do the city tour with? And how did you find the prices for the different dinners and shows? We're heading to BA in April and are really enjoying you timely report, thanks.
