I have reservations at Corcovado Tent camp for next week and just recieved an e-mail from them that they are no longer flying with Nature Air. They stated it was for safety reasons given the fact that there has been 2 accidents with the airline. Costa Rica Expiditions has been good enough to set us up with a charter service for our flight from San Jose to PJ. My concern is with my flight from Drake to San Jose. This was booked thru a different outfit "Las Caletas".
What have people heard of the accidents and what do you think of sticking with Nature air for the 2nd leg of myu journey?

Hmmmm...your comments give me pause, but last month we flew 3 times using Nature Air (to Osa Peninsula, back to San Jose and to Arenal) and I was impressed by the professionalism of the company and its employees. All the planes we flew on appeared to be very new with all the pieces in working order. I think I did read or hear of an incident with a Nature Air flight near Tamarindo?? It does make you wary, though, if Corcovado Tent Camp is not using them anymore, although they would have to err on the side of safety for their guests and liability issues. I tend not to worry as much about things (like crashing) so if it were me I wouldn't worry about flying Nature Air. All of our Nature Air flights were blessed with good weather and went very smoothly. Now if you were to ask about our flight to Stewart Island from the southern tip of New Zealand, that's a story!

I just took several flights with NatureAir also, and because i was in the country when they had the accidents, i did my own due diligence on the accidents and the airline. There were no deaths or injuries on either and on one of them seemed to be more of a problem with the runway than the airline.
Overall I flew NatureAir 6 times with family and they were professional, clean and felt safe - they have a good reputation within the country - so i don't know about this one agency but our agency said that NatureAir is the only airline they would fly in Costa Rica.
Plus they are the world's first zero emissions airline. COOL! I don't know what it really is...but it was nice.

Hmmm...i thought that Costa Rica Expeditions always did their packages with their own charter flights...

There are a lot of web sites where you can look up air safety of sepcific airlines. I think one is airsafety.org, or whatever. I would take it very seriously if a reputable tented camp has discontinued use of an airline and actually tells you why. They are looking out for your safety. To ignore them seems foolish.
Whatever you do, search around online. Sometime you do just have to have a fatalistic attitude, but of you can find a safer company, why not?
