Montevideo arrival customs

Hi, I'm just wondering approximately how much time I should figure in for getting through customs upon arriving at the Montevideo airport. We are trying to figure out timing for buses etc. since we will be going on to Buenos Aires that day. Also, if anyone would know how long it would take to get to Tres Cruces bus station that would help too. Thanks.

What airline will you be on? If it's the non-stop American flight from Miami, and you're at the end of the immigration line, it will take longer than if you're at the beginning of the line. If you're on the connecting AA flight after stopping in Buenos Aires, there are usually fewer people on that plane. Or will you be connecting from elsewhere in South America?

As it stands now, you board a bus that takes you from the plane to the terminal. That takes a few minutes to fill up.

I've had the whole thing take about 45 minutes, but I've done it in less time too.

When too? The new airport terminal will open in few months. I'm sure that will speed things up.

Depending on traffic, it takes 20-30 minutes by taxi to get from the airport to Tres Cruces. The airport is quite a distance from the city.

The new terminal won't be open by then, so the plane parks and they pull stairs up to the front and back doors. You disembark and board a bus to take you to the immigration hall. The line may be long, but it does move quickly. You proceed to baggage claim. That's the part that seems to take long. Customs always seems to open everybody's luggage. That's been my experience at least. Then you go out in front and that's where all the taxis wait.

The new terminal looks like it will be very nice. The present terminal is a little bit on the crowded, dumpy side.
