In Costa Rica now ~ THE OSA IS INCREDIBLE!

Well I am in San Jose afer 5 nights in the Osa and I am still soaring on that natural Osa high! The rainforest & wildlife was everything I hoped for.
I went on guided hikes, independent hikes and waterfall rapelling. In hindsight I am happy it was dark early as I probably would otherwise have never slept . LOL

Shared a couple meals with fodorites JoyceL and toontowndoc in between my hikes at BdC
Plumboy and I did same @ El Remanso and hiked down to pacific too.
I'm sure he will post his report before me; I am in CR almost 2 more weeks

So if anyone out there is lurking and debating a trip to the Osa......................YOU HAVE TO GOOOOO!
Well off to dinner, will post again perhaps while in CR
Tina

Where are you off to next? So glad you made it to Osa. It's such a beautiful area. LOVE it there.

It was great meeting you! You were so fun to hang out with, and I hope the rest of your trip is wonderful. How's the knee?!

If you hadn't been at El Remanso with me, I would have been the only guest! That would've been very lonely. Wish I could've joined you on the rest of your trek.

So, how was BdC? More wildlife? Which cabin did you end up getting?

Glad you liked it. I think it's an amazing area. Jaw dropping and wonderful.

Plum, really - the only guest? Is that normal or just because tourism is down? Curious to hear what you thought about how El Remanso compares to BdC.

The Osa is amazing and Bosque del Cabo a great place to stay. I've written a trip report, which might be of interest http://tripreports.co.uk/2009/12/cos...y-trip-report/

When I got to El Remanso on Friday afternoon, for dinner there were 7 guests including myself. The next morning, 5 people checked out leaving me and Tina. Gosh, that would have been really weird to be the only guest. Thank you Tina!

I'll write up a trip report as soon as I can (gotta sift through all my photos first), but, in a nutshell, I have to agree with tully's recent evaluation of ER. It was a beautiful, quiet, peaceful place, but for some reason (maybe it's the deep valleys on either side of the main grounds, or maybe BdC has cheated a lot and planted trees that attract animals!), but other than a lot of birds, I saw almost no mammals on the immediate grounds of ER. I did see one spider monkey by the yoga platform, and some more on the driveway. A small agouti on one of the trails, a tinamou on another, and I was very near a peccary on one trail (I could hear it and saw its tracks, but just couldn't see it).

There is evidence of other mammals, but I just didn't see them. Of course, in all fairness, I was only there one full day and part of a morning, so maybe if I had been there longer.

Again, it's a great place if you want some privacy and romance and aren't that concerned about seeing a lot of mammals right from you deck (though I imagine that is very possible from the two deluxe cabins further down the hill). And everyone was super nice and accommodating, so no complaints there.
