I would like to tour a fancy resort near Playa Del Carmen

My brother is getting married and wants a huge location wedding down in Mexico. I am going down there next week and he asked me to check out four or five of the fancy All Inclusive Resorts for the event.

Could I just show up and ask for a formal tour? Would they try to charge me or give a real hard sell? Have you ever toured a fancy resort in Mexico just to check it out?

I thought we had this question already. They will not allow you to tour the resorts just by showing up. If I were you and you know what resorts you are interested in, I would contact their wedding planner and ask to meet with them at the resort. That would be the only way I know of to do that. Resorts have gate attendants that check guests and allow them to enter.

Just one more reason I'd never stay at one of those resorts. What kind of public relations is that? It's not like you're looking to eat their food or drink their liquor.

Well, if it were allowed there are people who would want to sit around all day and eat/drink. It's also a security issue. I don't stay in AI's any longer either but I did when my kids were younger and did enjoy them. They serve a purpose and a clientele who want that experience. Some of these places are very expensive and provide services to match.

Yes, and if they provide wonderful service, they should be willing, by appointment, to provide a brief overview of their property, escorted by a knowledgeable member of their staff.

JeanH ,
They WILL provide tours "by appointment". If you had read colokids first post carefully, you would have seen that is what he said.
Also as stated, it is a safety issue. AI resorts can't have all sorts of people just show up and roam about.
