Cabo or Cancun?

..besides the most obvious..Cancun Riveria Maya area (beach/water) ..vs. Cabo ( golf deep sea fishing)..can you sway me one way or the other for a spot to spend a week?...We like the beach and water, but have heard how wonderful Cabo is...can anyone tell me why I should go to Cabo over Cancun?..(going late July).

I like Cancun better. Aside from the beauty of the beaches, there's more to do and see in Cancun for the average traveler ... Mayan ruins, island like Cozumel or Isla Mujeres, cenotes, different towns to visit.

Instead of Cancun you might consider Playa del Carmen, fairly close by. Are you equi-distant from both resort areas? Then Cancun probably is more of a vacation spot. I prefer Cabo for these reasons: It is closer to my California home and a short flight. It is less crowded. It is a desert, so very low humidity. CaboSan Lucas is a tourist town, so there is a very fun, albeit rather limited, night-life. There are many wonderful hotels with great restaurants. My favorite place (between the two you mention) is San Jose del Cabo, which is an old Colonial town with few tourists but good beaches and great food.

I can tell you that it is easy to make a great case for either place. I just love the low humidity so much, though!

I forgot to state the obvious: fantastic deep sea fishing!

Also the Pacific Ocean is just around the bend, and kind of wild. Most of the resorts are on the Sea of Cortez. There is a town called Todos Santos on the Pacific that is kind of a cool art colony - in miniature.

not to be argumentative , but that's another reason I like the Cancun area better! I actually like the humidity and lushness of Cancun. To me,
the Cabo landscape is really arid and dry, kinda ugly. So if you like the desert scenery, you'll like Cabo more than I do. However, Cabo does have some amazing and relaxing places to stay, and it is still Mexico, so I'd still go there! Just love the Riviera Maya area much more.
