I tried to post this before but it seems there is a glitch....I am considering a trip to Belize end of July/beginning of August. We live in Dallas. It would be myself, my husband and our six year old son. How bad are the mosquitoes and humidity going to be? I don't want this to be a bust. We are already coming from heat and bugs. The plan is to do Tikal, the rainforest and beach. Advice please. I'm happy to go somewhere cooler, like Ireland.

Hmmm...I thought I already responded to you about that. A mystery!

3 of our 6 visits to Belize have been in July and/or August. I think it's a good time to visit as prices tend to be lower and, in our experience, the rain has fallen almost exclusively at night. Technically it's hurricane season but that's really unlikely to affect you. You might want to consider trip insurance if you're paying out a lot of nonrefundable deposits, though.

Statistically April and May are hotter but there are not guarantees. Don't choose Belize if cook is a priority! If you choose places with ac and pools and/or on the beach, you should be fine. The mosquitoes are not too bad. You might notice more more in the rain-forest rather than on the cayes. Take some repellent.

Humidity averages around 75%. It feels hotter inland, while breezes make the cayes feel more comfortable.

Here's an idea for a travel plan... as soon as possible after landing, head to San Ignacio for a 2 or 3 nights (depending on what you want to do), then go to Tikal for at least 1 night. To get back to Belize, you can get one of the express buses from Flores to Belize City where you can get a water taxi to either Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker. AC has nicer beaches, but gets more tourists. CC is smaller & quieter. That puts the relaxing part of your trip at the end, and places you close to the airport for the return flight.

We did a combo of Chaa Creek and Victoria House for one of our trips and really loved it. The jungle was hot and humid; mosquitoes weren't as bad as back home, but it depends on if it's been raining. We did Tikal as a day trip with PACZ tours. We've also stayed at the Lamanai Outpost Lodge and really enjoyed that too.
