Adventure vacation Belize: Suggestions please!

Has anyone heard of The World Outdoors or Island Expeditions? Or have any suggestions on good travel groups to go with? I'm interested in Belize or Honduras.

I've read some good reviews about Island Expeditions. That would put you on Glovers where the snorkeling and diving are world class. We've visited Belize twice and Honduras 4 times and I think you might want to consider putting together your own trip. Armed with a good guidebook, internet research, and this forum it's an interesting, fairly easy process and generally much cheaper than having someone else do it.

My photo collections with blog and travelogue links are below. Happy trails!

If you're looking for something truly different, you might consider staying with Legacy Adventures (www.legacycharter.com) -- sailing catamaran charter.

We visited Belize in 2008 and stayed aboard the Legacy for a week and it was incredible; kayaking, diving, snorkeling, manatees. And the food was wonderful. The owner of the boat, Lisa Tormala, and her crew did everything to make our stay one of the best vacations we've had.

Staying onboard is an amazing experience, and you are not stuck in one place. You can go from island to island without having to worry about booking transfers. You get to see so much more of Belize.

Then we stayed for a week in Placencia at Maya Beach Hotel (www.mayabeachhotel.com). That was great too, it's a small hotel right on the beach. Their restaurant served wonderful dishes.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Belize is beautiful and the people were wonderful as well.

Love to hear what you eventually decide.
Cheers!

i am looking at Island Expeditions, although it looks to be a bit on the rustic (camping) side of travel, which i am not accustomed. But I like the itinerary a lot and the price is excellent.

I will look at legacy charter now, but the boat has me a bit nervous in terms of sea illness.

Thank you!

@Lionlove... if you're nervous about sea illness and think you might be susceptible, just do what I did. I purchased ginger oil capsules from my local natural foods store (you can probably get them at your grocery pharmacy too) and took them along.

I was fine for most of the trip (the catamarans are great for that because they're more stable). But there was one day where captain Lisa warned us that the swells might cause illness, so I popped 2 first thing in the morning and was great most of the day, and took a couple more in later afternoon.

As I said, she takes great care of her guests.

Good luck with your plans!

thank you Robena! I am looking at land and sea travel as possible options, however the land is far less expensive (as a single traveller, I almost double the trip once I add air and supplement). i will likely save the catamaran when I have a nice, warm body to sleep next to!

Ahhh, I understand. That would make a difference in the decision-making when you're not splitting the costs.

Well, on land we really enjoyed our stay in Placencia at the Maya Beach Hotel. Let's see, we booked a few land-based tours with local companies:
- Altun Ha, Cave Tubing and Zip-lining with Challenger Tours
- I cannot remember the name of the group we booked with for a tour of Xunantunich, but they were recommended by the Maya Beach Hotel.
Both tour guides were very good and reliable.

Happy travels,
