Zihuantanejo
Looking for a nice place to stay right on the beach in Zihuantanejo, not Ixtapa. Heard of a place called La Casa Que Canta, looks really nice but maybe too expensive. Want to be a little bit out of the way. Also would like to know of good beaches nearby and good, non-touristy restaurants to hit. Also, is May rainy season ? Thanks for your help.

We spent New Year's in Z. We spent a week at the Villa del Sol which is right on Playa del Ropya--a beautiful beach. Villa del Sol is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and was wonderful! It is a bit further away from town than La Caa Que Canta (about 5 minutes further down the beach). We really enjoyed the hotel and the village--it was a wonderful week! By the way, La Casa Que Canta looked amazing as it is perched right on a rock! Enjoy!

There are a couple of good message boards hosted in Zihuatenejo that can give you good info. Check out: <BR> http://www.mexico-zihuatanejo.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi <BR>or <BR>http://www.zihuatanejo.net/wwwboard/wwwboard.html <BR> <BR>also see the Zihua-Ixtapa site: <BR>http://www.ixtapa-zihuatanejo.com/info/marco2.htm <BR> <BR>It is a good place to visit and you can go as expensive or as frugal as you like and still have a good time. <BR>

Hi,If you don't mind arriving without a hotel booked some great bargins are out there.Check out Playa Mandrea, the beach next to town, for rooms. Also hotel Rosie(in the middle of town ) is only a few blocks from the main beach and is very cheap. Make sure you take the boat from the pier in town to Las Gates, a great beach to snorkel. ( Boat Fare $2.00 return). Have a great trip.

Good suggestions already on this post. You might also look into Catalina and Sotovento. They are sister hotels in the rocks above Playa la ropa. Our favorite beach to snorkel is Playa las Gatas. There are also some neat looking bungalows there, I can't remember their name, but I bet one of the other websites has them. Have a great time. We've been twice and love it!

You couldn't do better than La Casa Que Canta. It is very special indeed. Also a member of the Small Luxury Hotels group. I've stayed at VDS twice and LCQC thrice -- Casa is a qualitative step up. However, don't miss the Friday night Mexican Buffet dinner at VDS. In general, however, Casa's restaurant is best and the view spectacular. <BR> <BR>It will rain a bit in May but not so much as to spoil your time in Zihua. <BR> <BR>If you want to be "a little bit out of the way," then Casa may be the better choice.
