Ziahu Info...

I need some info!! My boyfriend and I are planning on going to Hotel Villia Del Sol in late April or early May. I am told he has already written an e-Mail but have yet to get a response, maybe I can do better!
So, here's the deal! We have been to some great places together. (Atlantis in the Bahamas, Jamacia, Sandy Lane Beach & Resort in Barbados, Carnage Bay, Canaouan in the West Indies, Las Vegas NV - for his birthday and other small B&B hotels around Texas). We sometimes get our vacation ideas from the Great Hotel & Reorts Magazine at the beginning of every year (the magazine is not out yet, our loss.). This year we started early and have not yet recieved our magazine so I am a little hesitant. We just want to discover the best the world has to offer at an affordable price. We have no children and have the luxury of being able to afford to travel to great places without any problems of going into major debt. With that being said, we feel that Hotel Villa Sol is an experience we would cherish. Is this true? I want to go riding horseback on the beach, I want to have dinner at sunset on the beach, I want us to be able to go into town and experience Zihua with drinks and a fun atmosphere! Is this the place to go? Please advise! I don't want Ixtapa and all of it's fakeness, what I do want is something more real more romantic and fun that has more to do than just lay on the beach. If you know of a better place please e-mail me back.
Enough said! Help me out here!

Zihuatanejo is a wonderful destination. I didn't stay at Villa del Sol. Personally, there were a couple of places that looked more appealing to me, but it gets great reviews. Most of the hotels in Zihuatanejo are small, which adds to the charm. I agree re Ixtapa - I didn't like it at all. There are some very good restaurants in Zihuatanejo, several of them close to your hotel, where you can get a fabulous view of the area. The weather was also perfect there during our 2 weeks - that was in February, mind you.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

We stayed at Villa del Sol last week of Oct 99. We loved it & have been many places to form a basis for comparison.
Terrific service & rooms. Food is good.
They will set you a table anywhere for meals. We always had lunch on the beach under our palapa! Tablecloth, silver, the works. Many beachfront restaurants lining Las Ropas beach you can walk to along the beach. Massages under a tent on the beach. In town Coconuts, KauKan & ELvira's at the pier were great. For a romantic dinner also is Villa de la Silva on a cliff in Ixtapa on the terrace at sunset. Taxis are cheap & everywhere. Or Casa Que Canta on the hill above VDS just down the beach. Pacific water is not great but beach is long & wide & good for swimming, some jetskis, boats to a few outer beaches. I'd pick a lagoon suite with private plunge pool, hammocks on terrace, mini-bar, air-conditioning, all are decorated differently. Have breakfast delivered to your terrace. Town has some shopping, fun Sunday night at the town square (basketball court!) for dancing & local foods, most local families turn out. I think there was 1 disco in town, didn't go. Or go to Ixtapa if you're looking for a night of dancing & partying, otherwise Zih is perfect for a romantic vacation. Enjoy!

I love Zihua! Have stayed at Villa del Sol and liked it. Prefer La Casa Que Canta, however, and friends tell me Puerto Mio is fabulous. I'd check out these three luxury inns and then make a decision.

We just returned from a week and the Villa del Sol over New Year's and had a great time. The beach was wonderful, the food very good, and the service excellent. The only thing that was marginally disappointing (and by that I mean only less than stellar) was the room but as it did not have a bathtub (although it was a huge bathroom with a great shower) and our room was located near the reception so we heard the phone ringing quite often (we had a superior room, by the way, number 20 if that helps). To be honest, though, we rarely spent time in the room as the beach was great and the pools were wonderful. As has been posted, you can eat anywhere with Lunch generally on the beach. We ask the maitre d' to set up a special dinner on the beach which was also fantastic. Zihaut is a great little town and is only about 5 minutes from the hotel by Taxi. Everyone in town was very friendly although, again, we did not leave the beach too often. I concur with the recommendation for La Casa Que Canta--we stopped by and it is smaller and slightly more elegant--I think it would be a wonderful place to stay as well. With that said, I can highly recommend the Villa del Sol as a terrific place to spend a week relaxing and having fun--you will not be disappointed. As an aside and to give you some perspective, like you, we have no children yet and are fortunate enought to spend quite a bit of time travelling as that is where we elect to spend our money. We have been lucky enought to stay in Ritz-Carltons, Four Seasons, Regents and other members of the Leading Hotels and Small Luxury chains throughout europe, australia, and africa and I would rate the Villa del Sol as one of the better places we have stayed! Hope this helps and enjoy the trip!

we wanted to stay at Villa a couple years ago, and did'nt. also Casa really would have been our first choice. we ended up at the Westin in Ixtapa, (we took advantage of a special deal). i suggest Casa. we have been traveling around mexico sporadically for the last 6 years, but if we get back to "Z" we will be staying at Casa. stay in that area. you can't go wrong, compared to the other ares you mentioned. have a great trip! G.

Hi SuZanne
We'll be at the Villa del Sol from the 20th of April until the 29th or so. Perhaps we'll meet up. We're looking forward to it and have heard great reviews.
Are you from Rio or is that just your emial address? We're considering Rio for a holiday in the future.
I was just online checking for restaurant recommendations and it sounds like you've got a few here.
Let me know if you'll be there while we are. My husband and I are also sans kids!
Have a great holiday where ever you go.

Why does eneryone leave out "Casa Cuitlateca?" We're going there in a week and a half and this is making me nervous! We wanted a smaller, more private place, and that's why we chose Casa Cuitlateca (only 5 rooms). It is right near Casa Que Canta. Does anyone have anything negative to say about Casa Cuitlateca?

I went for my first time to Zihua last february and stayed at the Hotel Irma. It was a most memorable delightful experience. Hotel Irma is run by locals and hire locals.....They are beautiful people. The fish in zihua is absolutely the best....hard to compete with it in Wisconsin! Go deep fishing with a charter boat off Ixtapa. We caught tuna, Maimai and swordfish which we took back the hotel and they served it to our party for dinner that night. talk about fresh fish@@ February of 2002 I am staying for two weeks and going to ruins and explore other cities.
Bring lots of $1.00 bills for tipping@

Hola Mike G,

La Quinta Troppo is located on a low hill overlooking Playa La Ropa and Zihuatanejo's Bay. I have always heard good reports about the place, but it's only negatives are that is is on a busy road and it is a good 200 yards or so to the beach. Not bad negatives, really.

There is quite a bit of info about this place as well as the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa area on the message board at:

www.zihuatanejo.net/wwwboard/wwwboard.html

or just go to

www.zihuatanejo.net

and click on the message board. The site is full of photos, info, maps and reviews on lodging, dining, and activities. There's even a weekly sportfishing report.

Warm saludos from Zihuatanejo,

Roberto

www.zihuatanejo.net
