Anyone with information on damage from Wilma hurricane for oceanfront hotels & condos at Akumal and Playa del Carmen? Please share with us what you have found out. Thanks, Norm

You can read the discussions from Cozumel locals on the following boards. Nothing new posted since late October 21 as they have most likely lost power by now. There are about 900 tourists still on the island of Cozumel. All are in hotels that are considered safe. No one had taken up emergency residence in the Convention Center as of yesterday. Authorites say the island has food and fuel for about 14 days.

There are a couple of photos from Wilma in Cozumel at this web site. Other photos are of Emily aftermath.

Norm -

Laura and Perry have a one-spot info shop on their site: cancunmap.com

A lot of links provided; along with a map of the storm path - much more accurate than any out there since they take the info from actual coordinates and apply them to their map. You can see the eye at around Captain Lafitte (north of Playa del Carmen).

You can read about Akumal on locogringo.com
Apparently, Gary (from locogringo and he and his wife decided to stay in Akumal) has been on CNN - so you may find some info on CNN as well.

The storm is still right there, so who knows what the extent of the damage will be. My thoughts and prayers are with all the locals!

Here is an excellent link for beach photos and storm damage reports on Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal, Soliman Bay, Tulum.

I have many friends in Cancun that I keep in touch with almost daily. I understand that repairs are progressing rapidly. Try www.cancunassist.com/specialreports.cfm The site has photos and videos of many of the hotels, restaurants, beaches, etc., post-Wilma, and is updated every few days.
