We are planning to WWR on our visit - unsure which location we should do this at. We are beginners! Any advice why to do this one place over another is appeciated.

Also did you book this excursion once your arrived or prior to?

The most popular place to raft is the Pacuare out of San Jose, but I know you can also raft out of Arenal on the Sarapiqui. www.riostropicales.com is a popular company to use. I would book ahead because they usually need a certain number of people in order to go out.

Hi, also a great place would be Saraqiqui. That is world class rafting as well and it's about 1.5 hours from San Jose.

It's a good idea to reserve a little bit in advance. When are you coming?

While I believe the better / more popular run is Pacuare, there are two rivers very near Manuel Antonio. I would have loved to raft the Pacuare but didn't have the time. However, we rafted the Naranjo just outside Manuel Antonio. Since we had never white water rafted before, it was a good first time river (mainly levels 2 & 3). One nice thing about the Naranjo, the drop in in only 30 minutes from Manuel Antonio.

I'm not sure if the Sarapiqui is open for rafting after the earthquake damage. It lost a lot of its scenic beauty after the earthquake, and almost all of its wildlife.

If you have your own car, you can raft the Pacuare while staying in the Sarapiqui area, which has TONS of fabulous wildlife and ecoutourism opportunities--moreso than any other area we've visited.

RAC, the Sarapiqui is open again. Rios Tropicales has been using the Reventazon, but is now back on the Sarapiqui according to the person I spoke to. Not sure what things look like though.

we won't be in san jose long enough to go rafting so we need to raft in either arenal or manuel antonio - i like the idea of doing the "beginners" type location in MA - I will have to look into it!
