I'd guess the XL-7. We've used it for 5 or 6 people and have been happy with it. Don't know a thing about the Terrano.

Terrano will fit 5 adults very comfortably.
There is a jump seat in the back luggage compartment, so sometimes they bill it as seating 7 adults, but no way.

While I was looking for something to fit 8 of us, I came across several mentions of Toyota Prado for 7 passengers. Don't know how much room for bags there would be. I'm in a bind, too - with 8 and our bags, the only thing I saw was a Landcruiser 12 passenger for $220/day (!) or a stick-shift minibus, not 4wd. I'd love to hear how larger families have gotten around, really don't want to split into 2 groups, so may just use drivers?

We had a Prado when we went to CR and I don't see how it could hold 7 people. Must be some pr guy's dream. We had 4, and 5 could have fit in comfortably, plus luggage, but not more than that.
