It is safe. but like in the US you may not care for the taste and opt to drink bottled water.

never EVER drink water from the tap. Don't even brush your teeth with it. I don't care who says it's safe. Even in Cancun... You want to have a nice vacation? Don't drink beverages with ice added or the fruit drinks unless you specifically ask if the ice (water) is purified. Wipe the lip of your bottle of beer before you drink. You should have a Montezuma free holiday...And you will have a very nice visit. Pepto Bismol free.

We went to Cancun in 1992 and I got Montezuma's Revenge. I didn't drink their water and didn't eat any green salads or anything they wash in their water. I was very careful until we went on a dinner cruise and ate some lettuce and after that is when I got sick. Boy it's no fun getting MR! Only use ice cubes that has a hole in it. Those cubes are made with purified water. We went to Puerta Vallarta in 1997 and I didn't have any problems. I even drank their water and ate everything there with no problems. Now I do have a weak stomach but my husband did feel a little sick in Cancun also and he has an iron stomach. But he didn't get sick like me. Bring ImodiumAD or call your doctor and get some special medication just in case. So just be careful and have fun! If you have any other questions just email.

We were at the Allegro jack Tar Village June 2000 and we did drink the water and eat the ice. No problems. I took all the remedys with us just in case. We used bottled water to brush our teeth, even tho there was a sign in the bathroom saying it was filtered. We drank the juice in the restaurants, and ate the food. Loved every minute of the Jack Tar-adults only. We really kicked back and relaxed. What a fun resort!

Gee whiz folks does anyone know what Montezumas Revenge is? They will carry you on the plane on a strecher. The old loose stool thing is caused by too many fruit based drinks ( a natural laxative) and common bacteria in food. If you think we have difficulty--the people we know in Mexico that travel occasionaly to the US--have huge problems but of course they can't get any sympathy cause we are so pure. After a few times down there you will adjust and in the mean time just take Acidophlilus (dried yougert) 3 times per day. That gives the US good bugs a chance to overcome the Mexican good bugs. Politics be damned--the world is diverse.

OOPS forgot to say --did donna (prevrious) get a free room? Jack Tar does not have a patent on water or food.

Glad to see someone else realizes that true infectious diarrhea is nothing like the diarrhea that most travelers get...went to Cancun in 1989..got the "real deal"...I missed 1 week of school, and one of the people in my group was admitted to the hospital for 3 days...we had eaten food prepared on a snorkel trip..funny thing is I knew that we shouldn't have..something inside kept telling me it was going to make us sick..but it tasted so good---LISTEN to your insides...

The water in the hotels is usually safe to brush your teeth with but try not to drink it. Be careful if you go on an organized tour - they usually stop you at a pre-determined restaurant for lunch. Definitely don't drink the water OR eat any raw fruits or vegetables. This is where most people get sick. Have fun - Cancun is a great place.

I was in Cancun about 5 years ago and had no problems with the water. My husband did get a little sick but we're both pretty sure that he got it from a cream salad dressing outdoor lunch buffet (which I did not have)at our hotel because he was perfectly fine for several days and it happened soon after he ate that salad. For the first 4 days, we used the water to brush our teeth and drink. No problems with salads, veggies or icecubes either. Obviously, use your own discretion, but we were fine.
